Bhuban-da,

Thanks for the compliment but for money I am trying for a personal loan -on my own. I have been repaying my student loan's monthly installmenst regulalrly and on time since Dec 2005 --and yesterday initiated measures so that these repayments get reflected on my credit history - on my SOcial Security Number (SSN) . If I have good credit history I can get loan to stay afloat till my first paycheck on work visa (hopefully) arrives in Nov, 2006.

Its a good advice to scout for magazines to print my stuff - but I never can write fiction and facts are not aways this pleasant. It would be too much of an effort to search for a magazine to take up a single article as a means to boost my finances.

  Thanks and Regards.

  Umesh

I already applied for a Citibank loan yesterday (though my credit history is still NILL -since my SSN will only reflect my loan repayments after one week or so) and once my SSN does reflect that I would take up Bank of America (BOA - my bank) on their offer to grant me a credit card with very low (1.9%) rate of interest till APril 2007 . If you have no credit history in US then you get very low amounts of loan and at very high interest rates. Credit cards are also same - BOA-would then only give you a credit line of $500-if you put in a security of $100 in their account --like most Indian techies do when they first land here. Over six months or so - the credit line would inch up to $1000 etc.

It is a good story for publication in a magazine. I hear America pays well for magazine articles. Of course you have to find out the particular type of magazines which will buy your stuff. At one time, just for fun, I used to earn a little money by contributing to all kinds of magazines published in India.Naional dailies also have educational supplements and the editors of such publications may be interested in you.

  Just a thought.

  Best wishes

  Bhuban
