Mr R Suresh, principal secretary, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, directed district officials to immediately identify and solve problems faced by people.

He was addressing a news conference after receiving grievances from general public and attending meeting of officials here on Thursday.

The general public had complained about drinking water, road repairs and problems in new bus stand. Urgent steps should be taken to solve them, he said.

The deputy commissioner should visit at least three hoblis in a month to review developmental works in the wake of complaints from villagers about negligent attitude of local officers, he said.

Act on pvt operators

Mr Suresh pointed out that the state government had spent crores of rupees on the construction of a new bus stand in the city. Stumbling blocks in shifting operations to the new bus stand should be sorted out within a week, failing which stern action would be initiated against officers concerned.

The district administration should not hesitate to deal firmly with private bus operators who had posed a big challenge to state transport corporation.

At present, North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation was facing stiff competition from private buses and maxi-cabs. Mr S K Halli, divisional controller of NWKRTC, Gadag, had to take necessary action failing which old bus stand would be shifted to new bus stand immediately.

Grievance meets

The principal secretary said that steps to be taken by Department of Food and Civil Supplies were discussed in the meeting. In spite of a feeling that public would not participate in the grievances meetings, the officials concerned had to attend people’s problems on priority.

Town municipality officials were asked to give a solution to drinking water problem of Gadag-Betageri within a week.

It was true that important government posts were vacant in the district causing problems to general public. The government was requested to fill up those posts at the earliest, he said.

Important issues such as delay in completion of Ashraya houses, poor quality works, connecting roads, repairs of highways and problems within gram panchayat limits were also discussed in the meeting, he added. An officer from Department of Food and Civil Supplies said that 2.15 lakh temporary ration cards would be distributed by August.
