*Politics and Film Development Board in Asom*

Till recently, Asomiya films were put up in 3 cinema halls of the
city of Guwahati -- i.e., in Udesna, Vandana and Urvashi. Unfortunately, the
Udeshna Hall has been shut down. The efforts of these three halls need to be
praised for promoting the cause of Asomiya Cinema. On the other hand, there
is a cinema hall called 'Anuradha' in Guwahati which is owned by an
influential Congressman called Phani Sharma, whose daughter-in-law called
Bobeeta Sharma poses as the Chairperson of the so called "Assam State Film
(Finance and Development ) Corporation. The irony is that this cinema hall
never screens Asomiya films. They even churn out money by putting up C-grade
Hindi films like 'Rain', 'Jawani Diwani' etc. However, once in a blue moon,
they gather some respectable film personalities to advertise the screening
of a National Award-winning Asomiya film with commendable help from the
media houses. That screening for a single show (9 A.M. - 11 A.M.), on a
single day, saves their day.

I wonder why the State Government doesn't free such
Corporations from political grip and let genuine persons like Jahnu Barua,
Jwangdoa Bodosa, Munin Barua, Manju Bora and the like to lead the cause
of cinema in Asom.
