Kaziranga opens for tourists

BOKAKHAT, Nov 1 The Kaziranga National Park was formally opened for tourists today in the presence of the deputy commissioner, Golaghat, MLA, Bokakhat, Forest department and other officials including the chief conservator of forests, Planning and Development, journalists, some leading citizens of the neighbouring areas, a few foreign tourists and a considerable number of domestic tourists. Thirteen elephants were specially arranged for the occasion. Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat DK Goswami formally declared the park open at a function held on the occasion. Jiten Gogoi, MLA, Bokakhat, symbolically cracked a coconut giving the initial push to the tourist flow to the park. It is pertinent to mention here that the park is visited annually by thousands of tourists - both foreign and national and the KNP earns revenue worth lakhs of rupees.
Sources in Wild Grass, one of the luxury resorts in Kaziranga said almost 100 foreign tourists are expected during November this year. Aranya, a resort owned by the Tourism Dept said it expects good turnout of tourists and almost all the 20 rooms it has are filled-up by domestic tourists.
