At least before I aplaud, I will wait to hear the full story.
two or three scenarios are possible:
1) May be this type of corruption is common, and the only difference in this case is that these guys lost the favour of CM. In that case I donot want to waste my apluse.
2) May be GOA is doing it simply because GOI is telling them to do. ((Aplaud GOI inthat case)
3) May be these guys are innocent in reality.
In any case, I want to know how this type of case could have been going for decades with the knowledge of GOA.
When you get that report, and are satisfied, then aplaud.

Maybe we should. But, Barua news of this nature are few and far between. If you don't applaud now, then you may have to wait a long time:-)

*** Heh-heh Ram. So you read that as "tackling" corruption, do you?

    I shouldda known :-).

Since WHEN has "reporting" of corrupt " teacher apptmt--" or what have you ,
become synonymous with "tackling" corruption Ram?

    > The GOA is going back into records and arresting and flushing out these con artists.

*** They ARE? You sure could have fooled me! Flushing them OUT has been going on for decades. Everybody knows what goes on. But there is NO deterrence. Nobody is or could be held accountable by the dysfunctional desi system of useless governmental institutions. The courts do not have a thirty year backlog because the crimes have not been flushed out, with MOST of the cases being filed by the 'government'. They do not get CONCLUDED, or if concluded, without anyone being held accountable. That is why it goes on unabated.

The word "tackling" could be used ONLY when some perceptible ACTION has taken place, after a competent and timely investigation, concluded with a fair and fitting adjudication, which would vindicate the innocent, but punish the guilty, so that deterrence could be set up.

*** Furthermore, Hati-sur kori aage-aage jai, bengena-swork dhore kind of activity does not do ANYTHING to create either deterrence or create respect for the rule of law.

*** But I am sure those Oxomiyas who perceives your commentary as little more
than Oxomiya bashing as an antidote for their sovereignty aspirations, would appreciate your applause, even if it is not very convincing , even if it is highly premature :-).

First, there were reports of school teachers appointed based on fake credentials, then we had admissions into medical colleges based on fake credentials (some of these have even become doctors). The GOA is going back into records and arresting and flushing out these con artists.

And now this multi-crore pension scam. The other areas the GOA could focus on are
The Sales Tax department (one of the most corrupt)
The GMC, the ASEB, and District Transport Office. We all know there is long list, but the GOA ought to be commended for at least taking these bold steps.

      By A Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 2 - In a sensational case, four persons, including the Deputy Superintendent of the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), Dr Ranjit Kumar Deka, have been arrested following the busting of a multi-crore financial scam involving the GMCH, the Accountant General (AG) office and the Treasury office. The other three persons arrested in this connection are Sanjib Majumdar, senior accountant, AG office; Srichand Valmiki, sweeper supervisor, GMCH; and Amarjit Singh, also sweeper supervisor, GMCH.

"Ninety-eight fake pension payment orders (PPOs) have been seized and the kingpins of the rackets arrested," police said

It is suspected that the scam, involving crores of government money, started in 1995 and continued till 2005, police said.

Fake pension papers in the names of grade-IV employees, especially sweepers, were initiated by the establishment, and the pension branch of the office of the Superintendent, GMCH. Fake death certificates, photographs and various other documents were prepared and sent to the AG office for approval of pension.

"The modus operandi had been that some staff of the AG office, in connivance with the GMCH staff, approve the pension and prepare the pension payment orders (PPOs), which are sent to the Treasury office. The Treasury office then prepares the pensions, and the money withdrawn is shared among the treasury office, AG office staff, GMCH officials and some sweeper supervisors (havildars), police said.

Further investigation by the police is on. It is likely that the police would be making more arrests in the days to come.
