Dear Arnab Jan Deka,
Your note came to my e-mail box.
If recent experience is any guide, this mail will not get published
in <assamonline at yahoogroups.com>, so I am copying assamnet also in on
it for public information.
Obviously your note was in response to numerous irrational charges
and bald-faced lies, stripped of context, posted by Rabin Deka in
assamonline as well as assamnet over the last two or three years. One
of the people thus accused by Rabin Deka is myself. Usually I ignore
these things. However, having seen your letter recently in assamnet
in reference to a Xonkordev chair at an university in Dilli, and
seeing your qualifications and titles in the post's header I presume
you are a scholar on Xonkordev,a person of many talents and obviously
of some standing in Oxomiya society. With that in mind, and in the
context of your note, I have the following questions:
A: What exactly would constitute "--abuse of Vaisnava Saints", as
relates to Rabin Deka's charges?
B: Who would these " --unscrupulous elements donning the garb of
guardianing (sic) over Assam and Assamese within the Internet" be?
C: As a Xonkordev scholar, how would you think Xonkordev, or Madhobdev or other
Boishnov saints would have reacted to such "abuse" to their names,
real, imagined,concocted or fabricated?
D: As an LLB ( pardon my ignorance here, but I presume that means you
are a real lawyer, unlike a baam-ukil),
*** What crimes exactly would you charge such "abusers" with ?
*** Under what country's laws and in what country's courts?
*** What would YOUR standing be to initiate such a
*** How does the General Secretary of a "non-religious" "world-body"
get to initiate "lawful" action against "abuses" to
Boishnov "saints" who are religious figures ?
*** Should these "unscrupulous elements" be found guilty of whatever
charges you intend to level against them, what are the
punishment precedents in the courts of the country/ies with
jurisdiction for crimes such as these?
I ask these questions, because, as you must know,I am a potential
accused. I am sure the other potential accused also would be very
interested in understanding the nature and substance of your
Your note, unfortunately, smacks of some semi-literate religious
fundamentalist zealot's political threats, that are so common today
all over the world and which does immense disservice to what
Xonkordev stood for and attempted to teach the people of Assam. Your
note makes it appear as though the followers of Xonkordev and
Madhobdev are more concerned about holding them up as icons for
idol-worshipping, oblivious of their teachings. To many of us, it is
an appalling display.
Finally, I hope you merely made a mistake, trusting someone's claims,
without thoroughly investigating the matter as a person of your
stature might be expected to. And if so, and if you wish to learn the
truths and the contexts of the charges levelled by Rabin Deka, you
are most welcome to write to me privately, or publicly. I will be
delighted, just as I am sure the other victims of Rabin Deka's
slanders would be, to provide you with the substance and context for
you to make an informed judgement.
