It seems she is getting two third schol from her school, so might be okay even if she comes back to India. People tell me salary in Indian metros is hitting the roof -even by US standards.

However, the FAQ of the AIT is hilarious. The director (and IIT founder) seems to play cupid (matchmaker also) with his 3rd class (in studies in BA in India) neice and Jaipur topper guy.
It seems he did not learn much about management - ofcourse IIT does not have an MIT Sloan School of Management!

He only talks about computer science while pushing unsuspecting teenagers into big bad world of global business with no work visas and no job security.

  Umesh
PS: Incidently I also used to speak to my students at Jaipur School about my attending in Jan 1992 a wedding of a MIT chemical engg graduate at her home in India - Indian style with a German fellow student. I also met her MIT batchmates. I was then studying at Delhi Univ and she was the aunt (distant) of my close friend and schoolmate Puneet from my hometown.

Her parents subsequently shifted to Haridwar from Delhi - she was their only child.

Anyone in North Dakota or aware of itts ND State Univ?

One of my former students from India is studying bachelors business program (BBA) at Ansal Inst. of Technology and has already applied for the US -leg of the program and taking a bank loan for that (maybe by mortgaging her family home) . Is it a wise decision given that US work visas dry up within two weeks now - bachelor's degree holders from US are not in master's quota.

Though she might be the forst female student from Jaipur School to go abroad for higher studies. I just advised her against it - NDSU didn't seem a good enough place for a business degree. I said even Harvard MBAs from India might find it difficult to get work visas now in US

Is a tech degree and a business degree from NDSU just the same ?

  Pl. advise.

The Ansal Institute offers answers to frequently asked questions about US Education, Registration, and Services of the College. Should you have any further questions, please consult our Contact Us page.
  http://www.aitgurgaon.org/Miscelleanous/FAQ.html
  1) Why US education and degree?
It is well known that the cream of the country (IITians) mostly aspire to acquire foreign degrees. It is understandable because opportunity to study abroad and work there (under legally tenable academic training) changes the work culture and mental attitude. Also opens up career opportunities in the global market.
It is also well known that the preference is to acquire higher US Degrees from accredited US Universities because of vastness of the country, liberal laws and regulations and far better opportunities to grow and learn. Practically the entire population consists of immigrants and so discrimination is minimal, in fact, negligible so far as Indians are concerned.
US being the only super power, practically the entire world looks towards it for leadership. Also the education system is pragmatic and broad based. For an average Indian student who is motivated and works regularly, success is assured.

  2)What is accreditation?
In the United States, accreditation is used to assure quality in educational institutions and programs. Accreditation is a voluntary, non-governmental process of peer review. It requires an educational institution or program to meet certain, defined standards or criteria. Accreditation is sometimes confused with certification. In general, institutions and programs are accredited, and individuals are certified.
There are two types of accreditation -- institutional and specialized. Institutional accreditors, such as those referred to as "regional" accreditors, examine the college or university as a whole educational institution. Specialized accreditors evaluate specific educational programs. Professional accreditors, such as those for medicine, law, architecture and engineering, fall into this category.
Accreditation serves to notify: Parents and prospective students that a program has met minimum standards; Faculty, Deans, administrators, program's strengths and weaknesses and of ways to improve the program; Employers that graduates are prepared to begin professional practice; Taxpayers that their funds are spent well; and The public that graduates are aware of public health and safety considerations.
  3) Will going to an average University like CCU/TSU/NDSU/CU fulfil the student's objectives and dreams?
The Director of Ansal Institute received his Ph.D. from an US University like CCU/TSU/NDSU/CU in 1962 and was working in NASA when IIT Delhi was set up. While in the US, he got appointments from IIT Delhi, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Bombay & Regional Engg. College, Allahabad. He joined IIT Delhi and was, essentially, a founding Faculty member of IIT Delhi. He got recognition and highest academic honours in the academic world here and nobody ever asked him to-date the ranking or the recognition by Indian Academic Boards of the US University which awarded him the Ph.D. degree.
While at the IIT, large number of students used to come for guidance telling him that their aspiration is to go to the US for higher studies and so wanted to know the names of 10 top ranking US Universities where they would apply. The Director's advice was to select 5 top Universities (CU would be a shade lower) and 5 average Universities like CCU/TSU/NDSU and go to the University which awards the applicant the admission and Fellowship. Right from the very beginning, large number of IITians would prepare for GRE & TOEFL to get ready to go to the US for higher studies after acquiring the IIT degree. One example clearly bears this out-in one of the convocations, Rajiv Gandhi, the then PM of the country was the chief guest at IIT and when the name of the 20 or so top rankers was called for medals to be awarded by the Prime Minister, practically none appeared on the rostrum. The reason was all of them had gone to the US for higher studies.
The Director's eldest daughter wanted to be an Engineer from IIT but she did not succeed in entering IIT for engineering courses. So after getting M.Sc. in Mathematics in India, she got admission at Catholic University of America (comparable to CCU/TSU/NDSU) for M.S. in Computer Technology, the discipline to which she could never enter in India. Today, she is a Senior Manager in a reputed US company in Detroit drawing about US$ 1,00,000/- p.a.
It will not be out of place to cite the example of another close relation of the Director who got 3rd division in B.A. (Hons.) in Mathematics from Delhi University. After this, she gave up the studies because all doors for professional growth in India were closed for her. At that stage the Director played an advisory role and facilitated her admission to one of the accredited US Universities. She had, no doubt, to attend some remedial courses in the first semester and in each course she got an A with the result that she was formally admitted to MS program in the next semester with assistantship. Right from day 1, she got a job (20 hours/week) with her Advisor to assist him in his office work, which required know-how in PC related work. Today, she is a Senior Software Engineer in Home Depot at Atlanta, a reputed Manufacturing Company with network spread over the entire country - her annual salary ~ US$ 1,00,000 (approx.).
On the other hand, her future spouse from Jaipur, topped the State Medical Entrance Test in Rajasthan and was featured in Rajasthan Patrika in Jaipur. However, he told his father (who was A SENIOR executive in Birla's Ball Bearing company in Jaipur) that he aspires to settle down in the US and so wishes to enter Engineering profession. Accordingly, he competed for Engineering Entrance Test as well and was admitted to the Delhi Institute of Technology (now NSIT) for the B.Tech in Computer Science. After completing the 4-year degree course from NSIT, he applied to the same University (where the Director's relation was studying) for M.S. course in Computer Science. So the brightest students from India also do not shun such an average University in the US if an opportunity arises. Today, the boy in question is a Senior Software Engineer (like the girl) in Delta Airlines, both drawing almost similar salaries ~US$1,00,000 per annum.

For recognition of US degrees, Association of Indian Universities (AIU) accords the status of equivalence. The degrees awarded by the accredited US universities for the full time programs offered on the US Campus, are generally equated by the AIU with the corresponding professional degrees of Indian Universities.
In the Indian context, the overseas accredited universities DO NOT fall under the purview of AICTE or UGC. It should be noted that BS (Bachelor of Science) degree in the US is earned after 4 year of studies applicable to students who have completed 10+2 years of education.
  6) Do all Bachelor's degree programs in US have 4-year duration?
