DERGAON, March 31 – An NGO with a difference, named ‘Sahay’, was formed at Badulipar on March 25 last year. The president of the NGO, Chandan Gogoi had to face a personal crisis while seeking blood for his wife Nepamoni Gogoi at the time of delivery of their first baby Prantik. And hence the NGO was formed mainly for blood donation and health care.

The NGO observed its first anniversary with a two-day-long programme on March 24 and 25. The programme began with blood grouping and health check up of the public with the joint association of Srimanta Club, Rangamatti and People & Science Bokakhat on March 24. The programme was conducted by four doctors of NRL Vivekananda Kendra Hospital.

On March 25, an open meeting was held at Bholaguri Club with Chandan Gogoi in the chair. The meeting was inaugurated by Pabitra Barbara while Dr Debabrat Sarmah and Gautam Dutta took part as the distinguished speaker. Journalist Sanjay Kr Hazarika and social worker Bipul Hazarika delivered their speeches as guest of honour.

In the meeting, Rajesh Maalpani of Lakhimpur who has donated blood more than 50 times was warmly felicitated. In return he urged the gathering to come forward with a positive mind to donate blood to the needy. In his speech, Dr Sarmah highlight the shortcomings of government policies of health and family welfare. Sanjay Hazarika opined that due to the mechanisation of our lives we have forgotten to laugh in joy. Hence blood donation is the best way to do something for the needy people in the society.

Through secretarial report, Pranab Baruah revealed that a total of 11 youth donated blood to the different patients. The NGO also distributed admission certificates of computer course to five meritorious students of below poverty line with the financial assistance from one Partha Gogoi of USA. The students will be paid the course fee as well as travelling allowance for the course. The meeting ended with vote of thanks offered by Arup Gogoi.
