10 individuals in Jeevan achievers’ list

 GUWAHATI, Jan 31 – Ten individuals who have made the State proud have made their way to the list of persons of the year (2006), shortlisted by Jeevan, a magazine published from the city.

The list was finalised after a survey carried in the beginning of the year. According to Suresh Ranjan Gaduka, editor of Jeevan, the opinions of Assamese people residing across the globe were also taken into account while preparing the list.

The scientists who have been selected are Dr Jitendranath Goswami, Director of the Ahmedabad based National Physical Research Laboratory and Dr Dhiraj Borah, heading the International Thermo-nuclear Experimental Reactor project in France.

Archer Jayanta Talukdar, ranked third in the world and swimmer Fariha Jaman, who won four gold medals in the SAF Games, are also on the list. Writer Mamoni Raisom Goswami, filmmaker Jahnu Baruah and singer Jubeen Garg, are amongst those selected. The February issue of Jeevan will carry their detailed profiles.
