Mukul-da,
I am fighting for daily bread right now. Green Card has a fee of $6,000 which I cannot afford. A senior of mine (having a Green Card) went back to his country (Kenya) - after 18 years in US - and was recently elected to the Parliament. My Green Card is God's grace --without which even the world's richest are of no use.
Your friend is most welcome to call on me (even if he is not in DC - cell no. 202-215-4328)
Umesh

Thanks Umesh for the detailed tips.
I shall pass on right away.
Can he say HI to you and ask for quick help if he happens DC way?
I am sure you will say "Yes-Of course-any time".
Keep fighting for YOUR Green Card.
MM

I'm told that after you clear USMLE you are supposed to do 3 year residency at a US hospital for which there is some procedure to apply. Affordable shelter depends upon how much money he has to spend .
And why is he going to NYC - has he already got a residency lined up -if so then they might be paying him upto $40,000 per year --enough to make most decent housing affordable (upto $1200 pm). Though many students from India share rooms for under $300 per month (in outskirts of DC -- NYC might be twice as costly).
Umesh
PS: He could check out www.hihostels.com for temp. stay at about $25 per day.
www.craigslist.com is a wonderful site for rooms on rent across US - I got mine thru that. Some people try www.sulekha.com also for Indian advt postings.

Dr Jissu Kingkor Das son of GU Mathematics Dept . HOD (retired) has just cleared US LME exams and is entitled to go to USA for study/work.
He wants somebody to guide him/befriend him/maybe direct him to affordable shelter in/around NYC or wherever he can study/improve .
He is married to another Doctor- and his wife is already working in London,England last 1 year and could join up in US.
Any help/offer/guidance from Assam netters-or their friends circles ?
On hearing from anybody willing--Yours Truly will put
him to direct communication .
Thanks
