  ATASU plea to The Sentinel on ‘Asom’
GUWAHATI, Feb 16: The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) has appealed to The Sentinel not to use the word ‘Asom’ instead of ‘Assam’. In a statement issued to The Sentinel today, ATASU president Chow Ashini Chetia said: “The Congress-BPPF(H) Government in the State took the decision to use ‘Asom’ instead of ‘Assam’ on the floor of the State Assembly through voice vote and sent the decision to the Centre, but the move on the part of the Government hurt the sentiment of the Tai Ahoms and a number of other indigenous tribes of the State whose consent was not sought.” 
Chetia further said that since the matter was a sub-judice one, the use of ‘Asom’ instead of ‘Assam’ by The Sentinel was not justified.
