Modern medical, technical institutes in city soon
By A Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Jan 8 Vyakti Vikas Kendra (VVK) India, a part of the Art of Living Foundation, has plans to set up a medical and a technical institute in Guwahati. Funds to the tune of nearly Rs 10 crore have been earmarked for the projects.
The twin institutes would synthesise the best of Indian traditional knowledge and western science, and would seek to cater to the needs of the common persons.
This was revealed to The Assam Tribune by Dr BB Dutta, president, North East Apex Body of VVK-India, who said, Our Guruji wants us to serve the people of the North East with the highest dedication, and these institutes once they are complete, would be a step in that direction.
VVK-India is on the look out for land where the institutes would be set up and the search has been narrowed to a place near Guwahati on the north bank of the Brahmaputra.
Dr Dutta, a former member of Parliament, was of the view that the medical institute would give an opportunity to utilise the knowledge of ayurveda along with that of modern medical sciences.
A significant aspect of the endeavour would be training imparted to local people to run the institutions. Shree Ravishankar believes that local people and especially the youth must possess the skills to manage the institutes, Dr Dutta said.
As a precursor to establishing them, VVK India would stress on training of local youth. A Youth Leadership Training Programme would soon be held at various venues of the State to equip young women men and with leadership qualities.
Apart from the training programme, VVK-India is placing emphasis on opening schools in various parts of the State. Four schools have already been opened in Upper Asom, while more are being planned.
In the area of agriculture too VVK-India has plans to introduce best practices in Asom and the neighbouring states. There is a great deal happening in the field of organic farming, and we could introduce such practices in the Northeast, he added.
Meanwhile steps are underway to set up a factory producing ayurvedic products in Arunachal Pradesh. The products would be manufactured by using medicinal plants available in the State, which also find mention in ayurveda.
