Patna: January 9, 2007
Over a hundred mentally-challenged children, under the banner of Institute
for Child Development, Mental Health and Rehabilitation for Handicapped,
sponsored by Samarpan, staged a rally in Patna on Tuesday to express their
protest against the killings of innocent Bihari workers in Assam.
Carrying hand made wood placards demanding to put an end to the killings of
Bihari labors in Assam, the children demanded strict actions against the
United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), the terrorist group responsible for
killing more than 70 people, mostly migrant Bihari labors, last weekend in
Assam.
The rally fas flagged off by Shivaji Kumar, the director of Samarpan, a
school for special need students.
Kumar, along with the principal of Samarpan Usha Manaki and Samarpan CEO
Sulekha Kumari, condemned the violence against Biharis in Assam saying India
was a free country and each citizen was born with the right to live or earn
livelihood in any part of the nation without any fear of regional backlash.
Mukesh Kumar, secretary, Bihar Disabled Students Association, said in spite
of their physical and mental disabilities, they would fight for the rights
of each citizen and oppose any attempt to break the nation into small pieces
based on regional differences.
The rally later arrived at Rajendra Nagar Stadium where the children lighted
candles to mourn the deaths of innocent Biharis in Assam and to pray for
peace and harmony in the nation.
