Forwarding this to any young prospective candidates interested  for volunteer work in Assam.  If anybody need help in identifying NGOs in Assam, we have now several good ones. For teaching jobs in Guwahati and Jorhat please write to Ankur Bora at ankur_bora2000 at yahoo.com for the two upcoming Assamese medium schools. There are other NGOs for welfare work, there are knowledgeable people in the net ready to help.  Please pass on the message.

We are seeking outstanding folks to join our Service Corps Fellowship to
volunteer with Indian NGOs. Please forward the announcement below to

*The American **India** Foundation (AIF) is currently accepting applications
for its 2007- 08 Service Corps Fellowship.*

*About the Service Corps Fellowship*

The Service Corps Fellowship builds bridges between America and India by
sending 20+ outstanding young American professionals to work with leading
non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India for ten months. The program
serves as an exchange of technical skills and intellectual resources which
aims to build the capacity of Indian NGOs while developing American leaders
with an understanding of India.

Fellows are selected through a competitive selection process from a pool
that averages 250 applicants. Since 2001, AIF has sent over 140 Fellows to
serve in India with 67 NGOs. Fellows serve with organizations working on
causes related to livelihood, primary education, public health and human
rights.

*Application Criteria* 

Required

1. Have demonstrated a strong interest in India's development sector
2. Be between the ages of 21 and 35 on September 1, 2007
3. Have achieved an undergraduate degree prior to starting the program
4. Be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident

Preferred

- Have prior work experience or a graduate degree
- Have worked/lived in a developing country

*Application Process*

*Written Application Deadline: **February 2, 2007***

Interviews for selected candidates: March 2007

Decision Notification to candidates: April 1, 2007

Fellowship Duration: September 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008

*Fellowship Support*

- Pre-screened host organization and mentor
- Modest monthly stipend for living, housing, food and transport
- Supplemental health insurance coverage
- Travel expenses to and from India
- Orientation in India and ongoing training
