[Assam] “refugees from former East Pakistan on pro-rata babis by distributing amongall the states” , Wow, BUT could it happen? Negated Indian stance gives historical responsibilities to the Assamese against the identity eliminators using all means.

Dear Editor Sahib,

In today's Times of India it was written in Learning with The Times about

the origin of ULFA as...a student movement in 1979 against the presence of

Bengalis from neighbouring West Bengal as well as the continuous flow of

illegal migrants from Bangladesh..the wisdom is totally incorrect. We

deplore spread of such mis cenceptions in the mass media by a responsible

newspaper like yours across the country. Whole world knows about Assam

movement and its genesis in the infiltration of Assam by illegal migrants

across the border, under the nose of the sentinels of our borders BSF.

Bengali intelligentia always mis-interpreted the Assam movement and today

West Bengal is paying the price for that. It has more Bangladeshi

immigrants than Assam now.

If you are really concerned about Assam and its problems, I would request

you to dwell upon certaion issues like what was BSF doing at the borders?

Why oil and tea had no impact on Assam's development despite more than

century long existance? Why was the Head Quarter of ONGC set up at Dehradun,

where there is not a single drop of oil? Why this area, which had a

tradition of trading with the South East Asian nations been kept under

closed borders? Why Govt. of India is not interested in opening up of the

Stillwell Rad?

Why Govt. of India donot think out of the box. It can rehabilitate the

refugees from former East Pakistan on pro-rata babis by distributing among

all the states, instead of putting the burden in one small state, which had

threaten its very cultural and demographic existence. Assamese people are

no less patrotic than any other Indian. But they cannot be made to lose

their distinct dentity just to prove to be Indians. If India has to remain a

strong nation, we must learn to respect the culture, language, ethnicity,

traditions of all sub-nationalities.

We request you to be more careful in future in issues which are sensititive.

Yours etc.
