‘Asom’s biodiversity, culture amazing’

 KAZIRANGA (Bokakhat), Jan 29 – “I am amazed by the richness of culture and biodiversity of Asom and she can be moulded and conserved beautifully as a State of jungles,” said Naina Kidwai, one of this year’s Padma Shree awardees, in connection with a Sanctuary-Asia-sponsored programme titled ‘Rhinos forever’ organised in the Kaziranga High School premises, where she addressed schoolchildren belonging to different schools of the Bokakhat sub-divisions.

The programme has begun with a year-long programme in the special initiative of Maan Boruah, a young ornithologist and conservationist of repute where the teachers and the students of the schools of Asom are proposed to be involved phase-wise to imbibe in the students the message for conservation of rhino and the forests. In Saturday’s programme: slogan writing and painting highlighting conservation were organised besides displaying documentary and the staging of a drama performed by the students of the Bokakhat Jatiya Vidyalaya.

Kidwai, the CEO of the HSBC Bank and an MBA from Harvard Business School, devotes considerable time for social work concerning particularly conservation, the recognition for which has brought her the prestigious Padmashree award, is all praise for the scenic beauty of the State and her green covers sheltering different flora and fauna. She appealed to the students to come forward for the cause of conservation. In her conversation with this correspondent she also said she has a special love for Asom as she has marital relation with her in that her father-in-law was the Chief Secretary of the erstwhile State with Shillong as its capital. She opined that there are a lot we can do towards conservation with the active participation of all well-meaning persons to fill all pockets of Asom with forests and wildlife.
