Hi all. I am forwarding this message from Manoj Goswami, senior journalist and editor of Dainik Janasadharan newspaper in Guwahati. Of course, many such cases of need keep happening but we rarely get a chance to be of any help. In this case, we can be of some help. For any clarification, one can write to Manoj-da at manojgoswami @ hotmail . com .
Just a thought in this regard, can all NRAs, who can make some contribution, get together and form a trust so that needy people can get some help in the fields of education and health care at least. may be Manoj-da, being in Guwahati, can coordinate such an effort with a group of likeminded people.

An appeal
In favour of an ailing helpless soul
It is a tragic story of a 17 year old bright student. The younger of the two sons of Mr. Arun Goswami and Mrs. Devi Goswami (Adi Elengi Satra), who hail from Phulabari of Dol Bagan in Assams North Lakhimpur district, this young boy is fighting for his life after doctors declared that one of his kidneys has been completely damaged. All was well for the family of Mr. Goswami before that fateful day, when their son was suddenly taken seriously ill and shivering in high fever the boy had to be admitted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. The doctors diagonised cerebral malaria and started treatment accordingly. But his condition never improved even after six months of treatment. He was referred to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital. After several tests it was discovered that one of his kidneys has been completely damaged. He was then referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of New Delhi. The young boy got well cosiderably. But doctors have come to the
conclusion that kidney transplantation is a must in this case and it must be done at the earliest possible time. It has also been advised that he be taken to Hyderabad for the transplantation and further treatment.
What Mr. Goswami needs now is help from kind-hearted people of all sections of the society. A school teacher by profession, Mr. Goswami is mentally ill and has lost his job. He has been trying desperately to save his son but the impoverished father now can not afford it as has spent everything for his sons treatment in Guwahati and Delhi. The ailing boy appeared for the Higher Secondary final examination but after two days he was again taken ill and had to abandon it.
We appeal to everybody to help this poor family in distress. Please show kindness to this distressed family and donate whatever you can for the expensive treatment of this helpless soul. In response to his request to Dainik Janasadharan and considering the familys appalling condition we are taking up this fund raising effort and we hope that all the kind hearted people will contribute to <br\>Let us not forget that one small step for man, could be one giant leap for humanity. <br\>Manoj Kumar Goswami<br\>Editor, Dainik Janasadharan<br\><hr size="1"\><br\>To: assamonline at yahoogroups.com<br\>From: mkaindia at yahoo.com<br\>Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2007 01:00:45 +0000<br\>Subject: [asom] Support for a needy student<br\><br\>I am willing to support one bright student (from poor background) for higher education at certain strict terms and conditions.
