It seems gvt. is silent on this matter, it's shame, these idiot politicians are doing nothing for the release of Debasish from abductors.
Engineers family loses patience
- Pain of separation unites Kakatis and Agarwallas OUR CORRESPONDENT Dibrugarh, June 10: Hope is slowly giving way to despair in the home of Debasish Kakati, the Assamese engineer who was abducted in Nigeria last month.
His companys representatives have been calling buari (daughter-in-law) everyday to say Debasish is safe and will be released soon, but nothing is happening. We are running out of patience, Debasishs father, Ajit Kakati, said from his Sivasagar residence today.
Debasish, a 32-year-old fire engineer employed by Indorama, an Indonesian oil company engaged in exploration projects in the African country, was abducted along with two other employees from their quarters at Port Harcourt in the West African country on May 19.
A few more employees of the company, some of them Indians, and members of their families were taken hostage earlier this month.
Indorama officials had told the Kakatis that the company had arrived at an agreement with the abductors and that he would be released very soon.
In accordance with the agreement, the company would have to pay a specific amount to the group every month if it wanted to continue with oil exploration in Nigeria.
The company has informed us that it is the amount which has come as a blockade in the early release of my son. This is very surprising. If they had signed an agreement with the extremist group, they should have paid them. Why are they unnecessarily delaying the matter now? Ajit said.
The family is also frustrated over the role of the state and central governments and urged them to take up the case with the United Nations and various other international platforms.
Family sources said chief minister Tarun Gogoi had called up Ajit and assured him of all help.
The state government can obviously put some pressure on the Centre to take up the matter strongly with the international community. However, till now we have not seen any sign of that, which is really very unfortunate, a family source said.
Debasish had joined Indorama on September 15 last year after leaving his job with the Indian Oil Corporation. Since joining Indorama, Debasish has been based on the outskirts of Port Harcourt with his wife Lata and one-year-old son Aditya.
I am concerned about the health of my son. Now the almighty is our only hope with our patience running out, Debasishs mother Kumkum said.
Ajit, a retired college teacher, had even sent an email to the Indian embassy in Lagos seeking its intervention for his sons early release. The embassy had replied promptly the very next day with an assurance of help.
