Hi Sandip:
Thanks so much for helping me see the light on my own. Is there an
echo here? Where did I hear that before :-)?
But you missed the point.
Five years ago George Bush and the Republicans sold a bill of goods
to American people making Iraq out to be the villain that caused
9/11. But three years later the American people began to find out
that they were deceived, that the country went to war under false
pretenses. And they stood up, with its intelligentsia giving voice
to the outrage over the deception.
Today the Bush administration is in dire straights over the war. The
republicans were voted out of power in both the Congress and the
Senate. In 2008 it is quite likely, that the president will be a
democrat.
It shows that the American polity does care and participates in its
governance, unlike in India, its advertisements about its democratic
pretences notwithstanding.
Indian intelligentsia is composed of those who are its most
educated, its most informed. But its education is questionable.
Information does not obviously translate into education.
That is the bottom line.
That was the point I was making, but obviously with no success.
