[Assam] ISI-friendly police officer suspended

Ali's suspension was later vacated after a departmental inquiry.
Amin was convicted by a Delhi court for his alleged involvement in the
abduction of four foreign nationals from Connaught Place in September 1994
in a bid to secure the release of 10 hardcore militants. A senior police
official said it was too much of a coincidence that Manik Ali was involved
in both the cases.

>From this reading it looks like Sub-Inspector Ali himself is an ISI or
B'deshi agent. He can of course move about with impunity.

This past January, I noticed that most of the shops in the Silpukhuri area
(main road, opposite Assam Tribune office) seem to be owned (manned) by
people who looked and spoke like Bangladeshis. Of course, I have no proof
one way or the other, whether these people were illegally there - who knows.
Upon enquiry from friends & relatives, they assured me they were illegal
Bangladeshis.

All over Guwahati, from rickshaw pullers to construction workers, were
mostly Biharis at one time - nowadays most are not Biharis.

The more shocking thing was that people seem to take this change in
demographics in their stride.
