HAILAKANDI, March 12 – An undertrial inmate has escaped from the Karimganj government hospital recently, police sources said.

Dilwar Hussain (27),was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife after seven months of marriage, by the District & Sessions Judge of Karimganj on April 5, 2006 last. The Karimganj police superintendent has suspended constable Jamal Uddin for negligence of duty. Jamal was on duty in the hospital when Dilwar escaped.

Police sources informed that Dilwar suddenly felt uneasy and started screaming on the night of February 26 last. The jail doctor suggested the authorities to admit him to the hospital. But after few days he escaped. According to sources, Dilwar told Jamal that he wanted to go out for toilet, when his mother and sister were also present in the hospital. Constable Jamal allowed but he got suspicious when he did not return after a long time and immediately informed the headquarter.

It may be mentioned here that Dilwar’s father Kamar Uddin was also sentenced to life imprisonment along with him for killing wife Rukia Begum after seven months of marriage at their residence in Balia in Karimganj district for dowry. Father Kamar Uddin is still in jail.
