Let us look forward and help however we can to it.
Not that I have a special connection to them, but from attending a few workshops/seminars/fund raising galas here at Houston, I understand that 'Pratham India' (Read India, http://readindia.org/) is aiming to eradicate illeteracy amongst children by the year 2010.

Their motto:

All children in India should be able to read, write and do basic arithmetic by 2010

Now, is that awesome or what? ---

"And our hearts, though stout and brave, Still, like muffled drums, are beating Funeral marches to the grave."
"Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul."
- H. W. Longfellow (A Psalm of Life)

"For until ye become as a savior, as a help to some soul that has lost hope, lost its way, ye do not fully comprehend the God within, the God without."
- Edgar Cayce

“In order to make spiritual progress you must be patient like a tree and humble like a blade of grass”
- Lakshmana
