JORHAT, Nov 24: Publications of the North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) here are among the top twenty five hottest articles and top 50 most-downloaded articles of ScienceDirect, Dr PC Tamuly, Head of the Department of Information Studies, NEIST said.
“Two of the research publications of Dr NC Barua, scientist, and his team of the Natural Products Chemistry Division have been able to carve out a niche among the top 25 hottest articles in Chemistry Tetrahedron Asymmetry as estimated by the magazine ScienceDirect for each of the first quarter of two consecutive years, 2006 and 2007,” Dr Tamuly elaborated. The two publications are Catalytic asymmetric Henry reaction— review article and total synthesis of (+) boronolide, Tetrahedron.
Further Dr Tamuly said that Dr James Milne, publisher of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, said in a letter dated June 22, 2007 that the latter article has been recognized as a ‘Top 50 most downloaded’ articles from Tetrahedron on ScienceDirect. This achievement was judged on the basis that Tetrahedron is one of the top five most-downloaded journals on ScienceDirect along with Cell, The Lancet and Tetrahedron Letters and over one million full text articles are downloaded from the five Tetrahedron publications each month, that is one article being downloaded every two to three seconds.
Almost 5,000 institutes currently take Tetrahedron online via ScienceDirect, providing unparalleled worldwide access to the journal's content. Papers of Tetrahedron publications are regularly featured as the ‘most requested’ articles of CAS. “These achievements of Dr NC Barua and his team, J Baruwa, N Gogoi and PP Saikia, come as a morale booster to the creative efforts of the scientific community of NEIST,” Dr Tamuly further said.
