I am new to this blogsite but welcome this opportunity to dialogue with
others who have no axe to grind, no hidden agenda to promote, no
condemnation or accusation in their minds. Their sole concern should be a
bright future for all those whose heart and home are in Assam.
I agree with Samudra Gupta Kashyap: lambasting ULFA will not serve any
purpose; in fact, the more I resist, the more it persists.
What we need is a Resurgent Assam Movement-- in which all are welcome and no
one is excluded. We don't wait until kingdom come for someone else to
liberate us. We begin, here and now, to liberate ourselves from ignorance,
lethargy, indifference, illusion, fear, greed, envy, division, blame,
violence, revenge--in short, all base tendencies which have incapicated us
for so long.
For this to happen, the starting point is an honest dialogue. This can grow
into a fellowship of like minded people--young and old--from all walks of
life, whose sole aim is to become a part of the answer rather than remaining
a part of the problem.
Here is what a recent Bangalore seminar on Dialogue in Education noted:
Each one of us has a certain perception regarding a situation. Clearly, one
person's perception and expression may or may not make sense to another. The
attempt to communicate with and to understand others, setting aside our own
images, ideas and preconceptions and listening without a barrier, may be
termed a dialogue.
A meaningful dialogue between individuals rests primarily on the conditions
under which it takes place. The ability to listen to another person and a
recognition of the rights of others to participate are important factors
that can affect a dialogue. Even more important are an atmosphere of trust
and a lack of fear between individuals. To be meaningful, the atmosphere
must be one of critical enquiry that is at the same time non-judgemental.
This necessarily also demands transparency between individuals.
Structurally, it requires a non-hierarchical democratic setting that is
sceptical of traditional systems of power and authority.
This would essentially be a people's initiative, a peoples's movement. Ruby
and others--especially the rank-and-file ULFA youth--would be welcome to
join for an honest quest for a vibrant, viable, resurgent Assam which could
give something new to its neighbours, to India and to the whole world.

agree with Samudra Da that the state of affairs in our beloved motherland is
in a pathetic morass today. As he has rightly pointed out, the authors of
misery and shame are not far to seek. But, alas the authors are only are
thriving merrily now, but are also proliferating rapidly, unrestrained. Who
will quail the tide? Citizen Army?
Also, please enlighten (many more like me would also perhaps want to know)
will indulging in mindless butchery and mayhem (of whoever, whatsoever, and
whichever race, kind, or creed) will pull us out of this abysmal condition?
Guess not. The ones that get squashed in the process have little to do with
state politics and other affairs that govern upper echelons.
I wish to recall here the ULFA's (the likes of Hirokjyoti, and others)
once-upon-a-time explanation for taking up arms was "a vow to cleanse the
Assamese society of such impurities (as pointed out by Samudra Da)" …
The pertinent question here to me is: isn't it time now for the ULFA to
redeem their initial pledge? Or is it a bygone story?
If it is a bygone story, then pray, make the gullible Assamese people
understand the more-than-patriots' new and redefined strategy for making
Assam "Xujala, Xuphala, Xasya Shyamala"… Through more arsenal and carnage?!

Is this what ULFA as an organization believes? Or is it your personal
opinion? It sounds like a statement issued someone in Afghanistan few years
ago. Is this the vision of the 21st Century Assam you mentioned "Everybody
Working ,learning, eating ,living in 21st century's best place on earth to
live—guided by worthy good people.".
Will we be correct if we conclude that this is how some "worthy good people"
mentioned in your mail will elevate people of Assam("We will Elevate them to
heights")?
This mail could have been longer but since Bhuyan will not much time to
answer as he/she may not have time (Plz. Do not. 99.999% Assamese Expect us
to productive work..) Assemese people expect not just ULFA, but expect
everyone to do truely productive work. Would you believe if you read that
99.999% of Assamese do not count blasting bombs, shooting people and
extorting money as productive work?

Should Rubi's incoherent responses to(clever?) questions put by netizens is
an
indication, I now know why Government of India does not want to talk
to ULFA -(becos?) ULFA can not respond to any discussion sensibly and with
substance. If this is the level of intellect in ULFA, upon
sovereignity ( hypothetical ), Assam is going to race down to the
bottom (of ?)in no time.
Scarier, still, are the remarks such as:
"Working ,learning, eating ,living in 21st century's best place on
earth to live guided by worthy good people."
"Any FILM /TV/PAPER STORIES are total waste and Monkey business.
Assamese need to throw these out as garbage."
More than anything else, it reminds me(Great International Politician cold
war days**?)of the defunct Soviet Union
with no freedom of press/information and about "worthy good people " -
Ruby are you alluding to ULFA's higher ups in B'desh ?No ,to You **of course
Rubi, I have but two choices:
1) Being ruled by ULFA and Bandladesh - with the requirement that I
change my name from Borgohain to Bor-Mian and adopt the new state
language Sylethi of "independent" Assam within 5 years of (you retire as
Chief of India's Planning Commission?)

2) Be "exploited" by the colonial Indian establishment - with whom I
share cultural, heritage, linguistic affinity ( Varanasi - Kashi -

If the "Liberation" in ULFA stands for liberating the people from
poverty, lack of education, lack of opportunity, liberation from
being culturally and demographically swamped by Bangladeshis, then we
are also ULFA, you will not have to invite us to join.
But if "Liberation" in ULFA stands for anything outside the Indian
political system, then we are on opposite sides.

was a pleasure reading the arguments from both sides. Although you have not
yet coherently replied to any of the questions.
Now Rubi want to postpone the argument by doing a background
check on people who have asked the questions. I assume he has already
done the background checks on all netters because he has been sending
his ULFA news letter to everybody.
Rubi, I will appreciate if you stop threatening people on background
checks for non-club members. This is a forum of educated people, and I
request you to kindly treat us the same. We are genuinely interested to
hear from you, your side of your view point. Arguments is always healthy
on a debate.

this to me is veiled threat to anyone who wishes to ask questions to ULFA
(which may be unpleasant to them, or they would have no answer) to keep

2nd October is being observed as the International Day of
Non-violence.
We are reminded of Mahatma Gandhi's India of my dreams:
"I shall work for an India in which the poorest shall feel that it
is their country, in whose making they have an effective voice, an
India in which there shall be no high class and low class of people;
an India in which all communities shall live in perfect
harmony………….We shall be at peace with all the rest of the world."
Let each of us spell out the Assam of my dreams. As our
dreams crystallise, a new Assam will begin to take shape; we need
not wait for some one else to liberate us from our helplessness.
