Teak and Saal are demanded by any Tom Dick and Harry :
Because he heard that Teak is THE BEST .He must have it too.
 
Saal Doorframe,windowframe  is a MUST-because Govt. PWD book says so.
A massive waste originating from lack of  Review of needs  and search for alternatives.
 
If you have to preserve these wonderful species--both so difficult to grow-- only one agency can-Govt.
 
How?

Make  a resolve at the highest level. Presidential Decree " Thou shalt not touch these 2 species for next50 years".Make felling,sawing,storing,selling  these 2--- ILLEGAL.-even for Cremations.
Make mandatory signature by Architect/Builder/owner   on Building approval Drawings--No Teak and Saal  shall be used anywhere in this building .
Ask CPWD/PWD/MES/National BAMBOO Mission--"Use only Bamboo Frames/Panel  at 10% costs of Sal/Teak--make  acceptable aesthetically"{I have made prototypes--others too}.
There are 100 million Ton Bamboos of all shapes/sizes/mechanical Strength in Assam and elsewhere
It is all a mindset-Grossly lacking in India.

teak plantation targets have been considerably reduced though the demand for teak timber is ever increasing. solid wood is being replaced by plywood of secondary species with treatment for prolonged durability.There is no clearfelling of good natural forests for creating teak plantations.
