Tezpur varsity to introduce job-oriented courses
By A Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Sept 10 – At a time when a sizeable chunk of students of the North-East Region are going outside the region to pursue job-oriented courses, the Tezpur University is introducing certain subjects in the frontier areas particularly those which have a relevance to the potential of the region.

The courses, to be introduced shortly, would focus on food and fruit processing technology, and pharmacology.

Disclosing this in an interactive session with the media recently at the university, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri said that apart from introducing frontier job-oriented subjects, the Tezpur University has also taken up several steps to augment the abilities of the students, particularly the needy and the less privileged ones, providing them with the kind of skills required for winning a lucrative job in the modern day world, including special courses by the IBM and NASSCOM for providing training leading to benchmark certification.

With this as the main objective, the university has recently launched a project called Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Project on a temporary basis.

He further mentioned that all necessary steps have been initiated for establishing state-of-the-art facilities in the campus like a modern computer centre with broad band global connectivity, high-end Central Instruments Facility, a modern well-facilitated library, etc.

The university has also plans to start a second campus to meet the increasing requirement for which the State government has been requested to provide land at an appropriate location.
