Mirror language artist seeks Govt help
>From Our Correspondent
SILAPATHAR, Sept 21 – Mirror language artist Uttam Das of Silapathar under the flood-prone Dhemaji district has entered his name in the Limca Books of World Records and hopes to enter his name in the Guiness Book of World Records. But the apathy of the State Government has generated a deep sense of frustration in his mind.

Uttam Das, the Silapathar youth has already completed writing “The meditation and its preparation”, the holy Bible (old testament) in English in Six Volumes, Naam Gosha in Assamese, Aaso Manush Hall in Bengali scripts in the mirror language. Now he has been writing Bhagwat Gita in Hindi and Quaran in Arabic in the mirror language form.

The term mirror language is the art of reading and writing the script as seen in a mirror. The mirror language is the image of the alphabet, which can read with the help of a mirror.

Uttam Das had handed over a copy of the Holy Bible (Old testament) written in mirror script to the Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati for His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI as a gift from the country.

So far he has been able to invite media attraction for his effort from countries across the world including USA, China, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Serbia & Montenagro, Hongkong, Sri Lanka, Canada, Bangladesh, UAE, Qater, Bahrain, Oman etc. But he is yet to get any response from the government of Assam to put his work on a high pedestal.

He has requested the Government of Assam to lend a helping hand to keep his art form alive.

Uttam Das has been facing lot of frustration due to financial problems of his own and the apathy of the State Government towards him to display his creations across the country.
