Hey Buljit,
Thanks a lot for the info. I am kinda lost with all these email IDs. I think I can just let you know what is the purpose of my contacting any one of these papers and also Samujjal Bhattacharya. This way you might be able tohelp me generate some ideas about how to convey this to the Assamese community.
Yesterday I came across the news item in the NDTV website
http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070025086
According to this news Indian scientists undertook their maiden expedition to the Arctic region to study climate change, glaciology and marine biology, government told the Rajya Sabha. It is very interesting because I have been doing climate change study as part of my doctoral research in the NSF supported Barrow Biocomplexity project in the field of terrestrial ecology since 2006. while doing my Ph.D in Environmental Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso.
Barrow is the northernmost point in the Arctic from the Americas . As part of the project, I have been running a robotic cart to collect hyperspectral reflectance data from the tundra biome in a dry Arctic lake bed. For your information that the system that I am using right now is the largest satellite validation systems in the entire world. The main aim of the 2 million dollars Biocomplexity project is to explore the relationship between varying soil moisture in the carbon budget of the lake bed. The results found from this experimental study has the potential of answering many predicted changes because of the climate change and also its imapts in the Arctic ecosystem and carbon balance.
I recently got selected to join in a three weeks expedition to Antarctica in December-January in 2007-2008 (http://sel.utep.edu/IPY-ROAM/index.html). I was selected on a national level competition and my research area in the expedition will be in the field of terrestrial ecology. I suspect that will make me the first Indian terrestrial researcher to do terrestrial research both in the Arctic and Antarctic region so far.
Proud to be an Axomiya. I am just wondering if I could be of any help to the student society back in my state sharing my experiences.
Cheers,
Santonu
