Impressed Infosys returns to Gauhati University
A STAFF REPORTER TELEGRAPH INDIA Feb. 4: Information Technology giant Infosys has decided to conduct a mega recruitment drive in Gauhati University.
Sources said Infosys was highly impressed with the performance of GU students during its campus interview last year and planned to select at least 150 graduates and postgraduates from the university to its top posts this year.
The company is expected to conduct the interview in the last week of March or the first week of April. It has already informed the placement cell of GU about its plan to conduct the mega campus interview. The universitys placement officer Kandarpa Sarma is in close touch with the human resource development department of Infosys to conduct the recruitment drive, a source said.
Infosys had selected 42 students from GU last year and had sent them for a six-month training to Mysore before they joined service. During the training period, each student was paid Rs 1.23 lakh.
Many students closely missed getting a job with Infosys last year. However, the selection of 42 students in the first interview was commendable. Being its first interview on the campus, the company had made the selection process very tough to extract the best talent.
This year, besides fresh graduates and postgraduates, the company will try to give a chance to those who completed their degrees two to three years ago. It will target the selection of a minimum of 150 students for various top posts, the source said.
The company will hold a written test, group discussion and final interview. It will give top priority to the personality and aptitude of students during the interview so that they can adjust to and meet the demands and challenges of the company.
Vice-chancellor Amarjyoti Choudhury said the university would ensure largescale participation of the maximum number of students in the campus interview. He said the placement cell was in touch with all the affiliated colleges of the university and had requested them to send students for the interview.
GU is happy and expresses its gratitude (to Infosys) for reposing confidence in its students. There is no dearth of talent in the university. Confidence and aptitude of students will matter a lot in the interview. The placement cell is already focusing on these issues, he added.
The Postgraduate Students Union has been demanding that companies like Infosys should hold frequent interviews at the university. Its general secretary, Moon Kumar Bora, said the union would extend all possible help to aspiring students to get their dream jobs.
