Former JEC students to form alumni body

 JORHAT, Feb 10 – Former students of Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) will meet at the auditorium of the premier institution here on February 17 to discuss the draft constitution for a proposed alumni association. This will be a general meeting convened by the ad hoc committee of the body which was constituted in October last year. 

The ad hoc committee has Dr HK Barua as president, Professor BN Choudhury as working president, Dr PB Barua as secretary and P Goswami as vice-president. 

In a press release, the ad hoc committee of the proposed alumni association said that the executive body for the first term would be elected in the general meeting. The agenda of the alumni body will also be put forth in the meeting. Dr HK Barua and another faculty member of the college, who is a former alumnus, will address a session of the meeting as resource persons.

JEC was established in 1960. It has so far produced more than 8,000 engineers and technocrats in various disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Computer Science and Engineering and MCA. There are nearly 900 students on the rolls at present.

Office-bearers of the ad hoc committee of the proposed alumni body have appealed to all former students of JEC to attend its general meeting on the day mentioned above.
