 Sir, –The annual State Budget of the year 2008-2009 is a critical one.Though several ambitious plans have been highlighted in the Budget yet it is bound to succumb to pitfalls.The exemption of VAT from rice, pulses ,atta,maida , suji etc. would help the affluent traders since, the State’s production of those items is minimally low and depends on import.The State government has totally failed to fulfille the aspirations of the people of Assam.There is no concrete scheme for the flood prone- areas.The much awaited- hope and the demand for the establistment of an engineering college in Dhemaji has again fallen on deaf ears.The government plan to set up anti-terror academy won't help in minimizsing insurgency unless a reality-based mechanism is engineered to tackle the basic problems of the social set up.– Yours etc, BHASKAR PEGU, Cotton College, Guwahati -1
