Yes, I also used Tata Phuton+ as well last December when we visited India. The speed was not so bad even with a Netbook. They come with built-in camera and sound recorder and speakers of course.
On a related note, you can even have video conferences with it using Skype for example, if you need to have voice and video chat with your clients/colleagues over here.
In December I donated one Netbook to Parijat Academy of Guwahati and have had video conference with the Librarian and some of the teachers at Parijat Academy from my home here at Houston. Both sides used Netbook and the connection and audio/video reception was quite good.
And yes, India is doing very good with wireless technology, but computer hardwares are still costly, in fact, are overly priced over there.
So if you plan to go with a Netbook, buy it from here - a Netbook that you get here for less than $300 may cost around Rs. 60,000 or more for 1 GB RAM (Rs. 80,000 for the one with 2 GB RAM, etc.) in India, this is from my experience from a Hi-Fi Technology store somewhere at Chennai. It was a Sony of course, mine was Gateway/Acer for less than $300, if I remember correctly. No built-in CD/DVD drive, but has 3/4 USB ports with 120 GB of hard drive space.
Hope everything works out fine for you to have an extended stay without having to use up all your vacation time. Try to take power outage into consideration too, a straight 8 hour engagement with the computer may not be possible. Plan to work with flex hours. :)
