Assam full of  Tharoors and Sunandas



   So Shashi Tharoor, the Minister of State for External Affairs loses
his ministership. A lady called Sunanada Pushkar was given free equity,
something revealed only when ownership was made public. Tharoor was brought to
book only because of a strong opposition and leaders like Prakash Karat,
Sitaram Yechury who made sure he didn't get a slip.



   In Assam, there are many ministers like that of Shashi Tharoor who
have been arranging special positions for their friends, unofficial partners or
what not. Let me start with CM Tarun Gogoi. Who recommended a Bobbeeta
Sharma as the Chairperson of the Assam State film (Finance and development
) Corporation Limited since 2005? Next, there is Himanta Biswa Sharma. Who
recommended Rakhee Chakraborty as the programme officer of
Assam
AIDS Control Society?



   There are many such murky appointments going on in Assam, but no
one questions, neither from the political front nor anyone from the civil
society. And just look at the irony, Shashi Tharoor ends up in Assam with his
partner to enjoy a holiday, that too right under the nose of Assam CM Tarun
Gogoi. Will Tharoor show such an audacity before strong chief-ministers like
Karunanidhi, VS
Achuthanandan, or even Nitish Kumar?



   Unlike at the national level, Assam doesnot have a strong
opposition or intelligent orators who can book these people. And just
look at the media in Assam, dozing
away. There
lies the tragedy of Assam.



   Through this column of Assam and north-east's first English
newspaper, I raise the above questions and hope that the alert sections of the
society would take notice of such political impropriety, financial irregularity
and shameless nepotism.
