Srijut Baruah,
I consider myself inadequate to comment on such an erudite piece. You have sought to indicate the possible ways out in the context of the related realities. While the objective conditions were born out of the sub-continental politics involving partition, economic compulsions, wars etc., you have given me more reasons to believe that subjective push comes from Assam specific policies/ politics of the Indian ruling polity that is insensitive, discriminatory and inimical to the local fears and aspirations, and also its innate weaknesses, arising out of acting at cross-purposes and the inherent myopia in trying to tide out the immediate threat to its own survival.
Thank you for a fulfilling experience.

Dear friends, Even though I haven’t had a
chance in recent years to participate in the discussions on Assam-net, I do follow the summary of your discussions. Recently all of you had important things to say on Assam’s apparently un-resolvable “Bangladeshi” problem. As I read your comments, I realized that an academic article I wrote last year on what I call the ambiguities of citizenship in Assam would have been of interest to you. I am sending you a copy as an attachment. Do read it when you get a chance. I would welcome feedback. I apologize for the somewhat academic prose. Good wishes, Sanjib Baruah
